John Magee (1794-1868), led an interesting and productive life. He served in a variety of positions for Steuben County from 1812-26. He was elected as a Jacksonian to Congress in 1826 and served until 1831. In 1831, the Steuben Colunty Bank of Bath was founded and Magee served as president until his passing in 1868. He was also involved in railroad construction, coal mining, mail stages and other businesses. |
